Gateways and scheduled refresh

What the unit teaches

Decide for any data source whether a refresh in the Power BI service needs a gateway, and which kind: on-premises data gateway (standard mode), personal mode or virtual network data gateway
Explain what personal mode cannot do (DirectQuery, live connections, sharing) and why production models use standard mode
Configure a semantic model's scheduled refresh: credentials, gateway connection, frequency, time slots, time zone and failure notifications
State the refresh limits that the exam tests: 8 scheduled refreshes a day on shared capacity (Pro), 48 on Premium, PPU and Fabric capacity, and the rules that pause or deactivate a schedule
Describe incremental refresh at the level of the exam: RangeStart and RangeEnd parameters, a policy, and what it saves
Name the costs of each refresh design: gateway servers, latency, capacity memory, licences and stored credentials

This unit is open to those enrolled

Enrolment is free — it is what lets the server remember your progress between sessions.
